My Birthday!
So today was my BIRTHDAY! And i had a wonderful day from the very start! Dave brought me breakfast in bed: egg in a whole, a little bacon, and orange juice! My favortie type of egg! After that he brought me my presents! The best of all was that the bed side table (you see below) was HAND MADE! Dave cut and sawed and contructed it all! He even put little leaf cut outs on the side, just because he loves me! I love it so very much! A true original (dave and the table!). Now i can retire my cardboard bedside table for a gesture of love!
I really wanted to spend the day with friends, so in the evening we had people over for homemade icecream cake that dave created all on his own. I asked him to make it, but the cake itself was a surprise because it made it at our friends house and i had no idea what he was putting in it. He used chocolate bars, and cookies, and lots of layers of my favorite ice creams. One friend brought over a delicious pumpkin cake on a cake stand that i get to keep as the present! All our friend brought over their good company, love, and laughter, and some very lovely presents for me as well! I truly felt loved and spoiled on this birthday!
Oh Pumpkin and ice cream cake! Does life get any more delicious?!
Lots of Goodies for everyone!
The beautiful table!
Bre and Ernie: cherished friends!Everyone: very wonderful and spectacular people and friends!
I also got a chance to spend the afternoon with a friend and have lunch. We met together at the forks, and we were actually wearing the same outfit: long sleeved red shirts under blue vests, with jeans! Cute us! I got a wonderful phone call from my sis-in-law, my new parents (mary and chris), my best friend from BC, and i spoke with my mom as well! Super day, i couldn't ask for anything more at all!
Thanks God!

Dave's Talents
Dave has many talents that he likes to share with his friends and family. Of course he can juggle a spoon on his english shnooze! He can take beautiful black and white pictures of Janie doing nothing of importance. He can take the same picture, but blurry, and he can give the camera to his wife who can take pictures of the cute cuddly kitties (also out of focus)! Those are all the talents Dave has for now. I think he will keep building his resume of skills! Hope you enjoyed the nonsense.

I see a person folding a blanket
So the last post included a very old picture, and this is a very new picture! Here we are in our green living room! Actualy i thought the green was going to turn out more like the background color of this blog template, but as you can see it is brighter, which we are very happy with!
Soon it is going to be my birthday, and i am very happy about this. Dave of course is trying to surprise me; he always has something up his sleeve, doing his best to give me clues that are all wrong. I told him i probably wouldn't put too much energy into guessing what he is doing, one cause i am not a very good guesser (although dave claims otherwise), and two i like surprises so i just don't go around snooping and peeking! My birthday falls on my day off this year so i get to meet a friend for lunch, and then get the apartment ready for having friends over for cake. I asked dave to construct some sort of ice cream cake with cookie crumbs and chocolate bars! Friends are coming over to share the cake, and probably play some games! I like people and i just wanted to spend the evening with people that we care about! I think i get to go out with some friends the next night as well, although i don't know what we will be doing that night. I had a dream last night that my birthday just kept going and going... how fun!
Tonight i am just going to catch up on some emails, and maybe unpack a box or two. I am getting more and more anxious to get boxes out of the babies room so that i can actualy start playing with the furniture and setting it all up! Oh joy!

The class
This is mine and Dave's first picture together! Isn't that sweet! We weren't even dating, but we had told each other we liked each other.. so this was the awkward inbetween week. But is had some definte perks and joys! ahhh, young love!
Well, a couple people asked what class i am taking, so i will take some time to tell you! The course is called Counseling skills level 1, and it is the first in a small applied counseling certificate that i plan on doing over the next five years. I was going to try in two years, but that was before little baby joined our lives! The certificate is only 11 courses long, but they leave the time frame open to the student because it is through continuing education! So the first class was super. We talked alot about the client centered type of counselling we are going to be focusing on learning. It is challening because this type of couseling sees the client as the person with the solution, not the counsellor, so even when the client asks/ says" what should i do to..., i just don't know what to do... i want to ask this question... i am asking this about life, what do you think..." the counsellor is helps them to explore their own question! The professor is excellent, and we are doing alot of discussion and role plays. The course just started last night, friday, and it runs friday night and all day saturday for three weekends, so i just finished the first weekend. Already today we were recording 10 min role plays for marks! I think everyone started the day feeling pretty anxious, but we all had a good time in the end. It is more about honest feedback at this point than actual skills. I mean we really did just learn and discuss these skills last night, now we need to practice them. I am glad i have a place at work to practice. I might be pouncing on people to talk to me now though... he he he... I think i will get some more reading done tonight. I just got home and dave is not here. I was not suppose to be home until 5 however, and it is 4:45, so i expect him soon! I think he is out shopping for a little birthday gift for me! I see on a piece of paper that we might be going out to a friend tonight! Looks like dave made some fun plans.. i see the word cake! That excites me! So, that is about it for now. Don't worry, i won't try to counsel any of my friends or my husband... that is just an unbrilliant thing to attempt! Keep exploring the world!

Back to School
I normally work on fridays, but because i am going BACK TO SCHOOL, i have the day off from work to do readings and prep. And yes, i am actually doing the readings and the prep. I am just having a little lunch/tea/internet break. I am excited, but nervous that i won't be able to find the class room because the one paper explaining that i was indeed registered, and my course would be in 'this' building, did not include a class number. I am sure it will be quite easy to figure out once i am there.
Back to the books, back to learning (i love to learn)!

September
It is mid september today and I am very happy about this. September is a wondeful month, and not just because it is my birthday! I have always enjoyed the changing of season, especially from summer to autumn. In winnipeg we have had an early autumn (which hopefuly does not signify an early winter as well). Some side walks are well laden with brown crunchy leaves, and other trees are still comepletly green. I am also very glad that there are seasons in life. I am glad we move from young to old and accomplish many different things along the way. Just the other night I was talking with a few different elderly people and I realized stronger than i ever had before that they are certainly in a different stage of life, but that their stage of life is just as enjoyable. Although i am very excited to be entering the motherhood stage of life, and i am also excited to think about the middle stage of life, and even the day when i might meet a Grandchild.
I am also glad that things are always changing. The state i am in right now will pass, and soon circumstance will be different. This goes for most everything, and thankfully so, because it gives unending room for the movement of the Holy Spirit and God! Seasons: summer, autumn, winter spring... every single one is worthwhile and important; every stage of life makes way for the next at just the right pace!
Oh leaves, keep on falling!

This picture of the spine is my favorite! On the left is the head, and the spine came to a perfect little point that you can't see in this photo! When you are looking at these you really have to think "skeleton" because you can mostly make out the bones!

Awww, the face! The next two pictures use arrows to point to

Dave has to go into work this morning for ten and i am going to walk with him and then walk back home! I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as we have! I don't know if i will have another ultrasound in the future or not, so this might be it until we see the baby face to face!
happy sunny autumn days to you all (it is autumn here, unlike everywhere else!)

Moved In
It is Tuesday, September 6th. We started our moving adventure last week tuesday evening, and are finally able to start uppacking boxes! We did have ourselved somewhat settled into the new place; furniture was starting to find homes and the kitchen was entirely set up, until.. dun dun dun.. we decided that the walls were just too white and now was the time to do something about it. So we PAINTED! Wow, did we ever choose some bright colors in the end, but come winter when everything around us is white and dirty brown we will be alive and invigorated by our green, blue and orange walls. This project took all weekend and many coats of paint. I will post pictures when we get our phone and internet hooked up in our new place, hopefully that happens tomorrow!
In other breaking news we have our first UltraSound thursday morning! Oh exciting to finally see the little baby! The due date is in question so we have a little more information after this visit i hope. And no worries, i will be sure to post EVERYTHING we find out, and maybe we can get the pics up for fam elsewhere (which is everyone really!)
Many happy returns!

Moving SOOOO soon
It is monday and Dave and i are busy running errands in preperation for our move on thursday. Most of our house is boxed now, and i can't even show you pictures of the wonderful mess because everything i need to do that is still packed.
We are sad to leave our place behind. We took a bunch of our wall decor and art down this morning and the place looks so naked. We really like this place, but we know we can make this next apartment into something special too!
There is really nothing else going on in our worlds; we are consumed by packing!
I am going to get back to wonderful packing now; lots done, lots left to go! Bye

packing, snacking, waiting: a three tier thesis
Just when i think we have gotten all the christmas ornaments packed and away, duffy finds another one to scoot across the floor. He has been stashing them since Christmas, and we haven't found the stash, but one by one we are getting them back! Mwahhhha ha ha ha
We have been doing lots of packing at the Colvinson House. I was going to post some pictures of our recent adventures in life, but dave has lovingly packed away the computer accesories, thus i can't transfere any pictures.
I just had a lovely snack of nachos, mild salsa, and light sour cream. I was disapointed when i looked in the fridge and we had light sour cream and not fat free. Now the snack wasn't guilt free.
I am just waiting for dave to get home from chiropractors before i pounce on him for a dinner idea. Maybe we will make chillie and throw in chillie like left overs. Maybe we will make tuna noodle surprise, with little toys as the surprise. Maybe we will make perogie Pizza (absolutely delicious; a must make! Just put sour cream (fat free of course) on the crust for sauce, cook up perogies, onions, and turkey bacon (or the real stuff; it's your heart!), and cheese, and bake it)!
Merriment and good times to all
Ohh.. the telephone ( awwww boooo.. telemarketer trying to sell me a cell phone)

Pumpkin Bread
My mother is visiting from BC, and she bought me a Pumpkin Bread candle from Peir ! Imports. Simply the best, there is no other candle that smells with such potency and burns for so long. Their autumn scents are simply fabulous.
Unfortunately it is raining for her visit, but there are lots of great indoor places to visit in Winnipeg too!

Shinning New
WE GOT THE APARTMENT!
We have a place to go and a reason to pack. Now we just have to wait until someone takes our place. Lots of time left for that though too!
It is rainy in winnipeg today, which makes it a perfect day for a cup of tea and some serious packing, until i have to head to work that is!
I heard the baby's heart beat the other day. Sounded like our kittens; little hearts beat fast! We can't wait until the ultra sound to find out how old the baby really is and to SEE IT!
Do any of you know how to use flickr? I have a flickr account, but don't know how to show you the pictures i have up on it. Let me know! Thanks
very merrys days to everyone

AVACADO
Dave and I treated ourselves to a beach day sunday afternoon! We same together, and dug hole, in the sand, underwater, with out feet! It was excellent fun. As we were coming back to the shore we saw some friends from our college and career group at another church. It turns out that some people from their church had organized a beach day. There was a small bunch, but they let us hang with them, and eat their hot dogs. We used 45 sunscreen so we don't get skin cancer, but most importantly we had a wonderful time together at the beach!
Yesterday, monday, we found out that we didn't get the apartment (dave is watching a cartoon on DVD, but pausing it where the commercial breaks would have been to go fill his glass and get food and stuff, just like when he was a boy! I think he is having like the best day ever! I'll say more later! cute husbands rock!) that we really wanted just up the road. Today however, after many phone calls yesterday, we found a place that we like. It has a very nice open layout, which will be great with a little baby sneaking around. It is large, and has some character, but is a newer, nicer building. People aren't actually allowed to paint there, but we pulled a few strings and we are allowed. We are pretty sure that we have it because we talked right to the Building managers, left a deposit, and are just nice, decent people. From the building managers the application goes to the management company, but the BM said they would write a cover letter because they want us to rent. They said they aren't allowed to be biased in choosing tenents, but they always make sure good people get in! So we are really hoping this is the place. We had to pray alot, and i had alot of trusting to do. I was thoroughly dissapointed the other day, but we had prayed that God would give us what would work, and i guess the other place wouldn't have, and this one will! Lots of good things about this place, and a few things that we will have to learn to work around. Good: hardwood floors, animals allowed, painting permitted to us, open, big, nice windows, parking space included, BIG storage lockers in basement to store LOTS AND LOTS of stuff in, lots of closet space, carpet in babies bedroom, good view of street, awesome area of town, closer to dave's work, good landlords/caretakers... Bad: not alot of kitchen cabinet space, but we can work with that. I do wish we lived closer to an ikea because i was just on the web site and we all know they have so many great things. We just have to take the ideas and apply them to other furniture that we get here. We just pulled out some boxes today and started the packing thing! blah
Dave's day was good because there is a new Rector (Sr. Pastor) at our church and he is an amazing man with lots of passion and ideas that would refresh the place. Above all he is centred on God. He asked Dave if there is anything he would need to work better in the office, and dave just didn't know because no one had asked him that before! Wow hey! Dave's day was good because he saw the apartment and made the decision that it would be good for us, and everything is working out so far! It was also a good day for him because he loves me and i love him!
Ahhh, my head is just flooding with great ideas for our upcoming space, baby room, and all that stuff! I am excited to create a new space, that is even more like us! And the place is very affordable for us. We are happy here!
I am going to pick away at more boxes now.
We had avacado in our fajitas for dinner.

A Poem for the Day
Dave and I had normal days at work. We are going to get our hair cut, together, because that's what lame, old, married people do. They can't even stand to get their hair cut apart. No, the truth is that we are just having a busy weekend, so we are trying to squeeze hair cuts in tonight. After we are newly chopped we are going to head over to Costco for a wonderful Whole Sale experience! We are having a youth service day tomorrow and we need to buy pop that the Youth can hand out to serve Winnipeg. Don't we have a nice youth group!! Everyone who reads this should join our party. Our youth love service days!!! After costco, where i am sure we will spend more than just the churches money, i am hoping we might be able to catch Willy Wonka, and still get to bed at a decent time.
Aren't you all glad that i Blogg all the boring details of my life? I don't think i will post any pictures of this Friday night adventure because i don't think anyone would care to see them! Anyway, hope i didn't waste too much of your time. In case i did, i want to make it up to you by wiggling your senses with a Poem:
Oh wait, forgot a small detail: we are going to have Split Pea with Ham Soup tonight! Homemade, but not by me!
On with the poem...
This poem is by Dennis Lee
The Muddy Puddle
I am sitting
In the middle
Of a rather
Muddy
Puddle,
With my bottom
Full of bubbles
And my rubbers
Full of mud,
While my jacket
And my sweater
Go on slowly
Getting wetter
As i very
Slowly settle
To the bottom
Of the mud
And i find that
What a person
With a puddle
Round his middle
Thinks of mostly
In the muddle
Is the muddi-
Ness of mud.
That's one of my fav's!

Apartment Searching
I don't know if we have posted that we are having a baby yet, but for all of youse who don't know, we are having a baby, sometime early January! yippy! Which means we need to find a 2 bedroom place. We think we have found a nice apartment just up the road, and at a good price. We were looking at some that were out of our range in the beginning, and then we did some number crunching and realized that things would be way to tight. We are going to drop off an application for this place early tomorrow morning in hopes that it works out. It is just a little smaller than our current abode, and we would need to get a much smaller kitchen table. But that is totaly doable. We liked everything about it, and we are allowed to PAINT! We heard from the care taker that lots of people had looked at it, so we are going to pray very hard that it works out, and you can too if you would like!
Dave has been busy painting flowers on old barn windows for someone at my work. They are turing out great, and it has been such a nice project for him to work on in the evenings. He really is an artist. This guys can draw, and visualize, and animate, and paint spectacular images! He doesn't get to indulge in art too much, but who knows what will happen in ten years. Maybe we will be writing childrens stories together by then!
We are both hungry, and don't know what to eat for a nice little bed time snack. Any ideas? Let us know, although i am sure we will have worked something out by the time you suggest. But we can always use your suggestion for next time.
One of our kitties is limping, again, and it makes us sad.
Other than we are happy.
Here's a poem
I had a little brother and i took him to my mother
I said i want another little brother for a change
But she said don't be a bother so i took him to my father
And said this little bother of a brothers very strange
But he said one little brother is exactly like another
And every little brother misbehaves a bit he said
so i took the little brother from my mother and my father
and i put the little bother of a brother back to bed
(can't remeber who it is by... not me though)

Wedding, Arizona, and South of the Border Adventures
I hate to say that i teased you with the title, because i actualy do not have the time right now to write about our trip. It is Wednesday, my day off from work, and dave's 9-4 day at work. I usualy spend this day cleaning, catching up on bills and mail, relaxing a little (Dave always tells me to have some fun on this day! Nice guy!), doing any shopping needed, cooking, visiting people, etc... The day fills up pretty quick, and as we still haven't unpacked our trip bag, there is cat hair everywhere (again) and lots of dirtiness awaits me in the bathroom, i don't think i will find adequate time to write and post pictures. I haven't even gone through the pictures yet!
Recently dave and i have been searching around our area for two bedroom apts. We found some gorgeous gems that were outside our budget, so our search continues with lower standards. Luckily, we have already found someone to sublet our apt to, so half our worries are gone gone gone!!
I am going to get moving now and have my self a pretty good wednesday! Very soon we will put up shinning, colorful, fantastic pictures of Mark, Rachel, and the Grand Canyon!
Happy Trails to you all

The Night of the Razor's Edge! - Dave Colvinson
It all started just the other day. I hadn't hardly slept the whole night and getting up wasn't easy. The city was baking in the heat of the morning, and so was I. Pulling myself out of bed has never been easy, but today something made everything worse. Something was clinging to me, dragging my head back into the matress. With near herculean effort and pulled myself away and came face to face with my foe. There, starring back at me in the mirror, I saw the problem. At long last, the day had come. *the preceeding wass moody and cool- like a black and white movie with bad editing- and should have be read in a gravely voice* This is the end of and era. You know those times that goes down in history as, well, historic? The day was the Forth of July, 2005. Kinda appropriate.
I decided the moment I woke up and saw myself in the mirrow. Or "Mirror" as you may like to spell it. I just looked up and...and decided. "Yep, I'm done with these guys."
I told Janie later that day. I've known forever that she might be "hostile" to the idea, but she actually took it really well. When we went home for a quick dinner, she grabbed the phone and booked the appointment, and that was it.
I had decided that today was the day. And like a British Red Coat clinging futily to American soil, my dreads had seen their last sunrise. I was getting a haircut.
Now, I have to explain something. I haven't had a haircut since highschool, and I've been out of college for a year. I've had my dreads since April 2002, the year before that I had been growing my hair out for the dreads, and the year before THAT I had been giving myself haircuts at home, a la buzzcut.
We arrived late for my appointment, of course - like we do for everything, but it was alright. We walked in, and immediately there were looks of concern as each of the hair dressers checked the list to who was up for the next customer. One young lady came out, saw the list, saw me, and just left. I saw her talking to one of the "senior" hair dressers, who to the front to ask me some questions, then return to the back, no doubt with a few last words of comfort.
Truth be told, she may have been worried at first, but she did a wonderful job. At first they assumed what most people assume - that having dreads removed can only be done by shaving a person's head (perferably the head to which the dreads attached). Not so! After I was sat down in the fateful chair and she stated to cut, we were able to leave about 3 inches of undreaded hair, at least! Janie was completly grossed out by the contents of my dreads, which was probably a mixture of dandruff and old dread wax, but which looked more like powdery white boogers. Ew. Janie got her fingers right in there to help with pulling dreads apart and helping me to decide what to do afterwards. She's so great. I guess I had thought more about cutting the dreads off than about what the aftermath would look like.
Man, it's getting late. I'm not used to this new-fangled bloggin' thinger.
Okay, to make a long story a little shorter, I'll skip to the end and let the photos in PART II tell the rest of the story.
In the end I have to say that things turned out great. I'm totally pumped about the new "do" and feel way more comfortable. Now I can take a normal shower like other people and I don't have to sleep on a pile of rope!
Why did I do it? You mean, other than being sick of having the same hair cut for the last 3 years? Well, I was getting a little too warm in the summer heat, and I think I was starting to get head aches from the weight of hair on my head. Partly, I was tired of being "the guy with the dreads." It felt like people only saw my hair, and I didn't like that.
Well, that's all for now. I'm tired and I'm missing Superman, The Animated Series. Go look at the photos. I'm going to bed.
-D
Don't hesitate any longer... GO look at the photos below!

Guitar Smuitar
Dave and I were taught, by our lovely friend sarah, how to string our Guitar! Its a very old hunk of wood, and the next is distorted so it buzzes when we play, but we sure are having fun strumming out some of our favortie songs! My finger nails were growing so nicely, which normally they never seem to do, so of course i was disapointed when i realized that alot of my chords were coming out very wonky because i couldn't get my fingers down on the strings hard enough. My nails were in the way, and they had to go, at least on my left hand! The best part about having a guitar around is now I have something to get distracted by! Dave has lots that distracts him when he is meaning to be cleaning or doing some work, but i usually just get discracted by more cleaning... until now! Everytime i see our newly strung hunk of wood i get motivated to learn just a little more than i knew yesterday! Okay, the actual best part of having a guitar around is that we are trying hard to perfect our "worship chords" so we can do worship with the Youth Group! Such a wonderful opportunity to get closer to God for everyone!
I just love giving things away to the thrift store! I love it because one, other people get to enjoy the things i have enjoyed, and two, i get to find more treasures to fill up the space i emptied (of course, i find these treasures at the thrift store and make a nice little cycle of give and take)! I am trying hard to teach dave the joys of giving up things that someone else would love, and i think just yesterday he caught on. We were going through our clothing wardrobe, which was Dave's idea in the first place, and he managed to find more than to me pass on! I was so proud of him. So, if you call us and we aren't home it is probably because we are out shopping at thrift stores looking for some new and crazy rags!
I already know i am weird!
All Done!

No Point to Make at all
It's a thursday morning. The trees, sidewalks, people and cars are all glossy like from the rain. I just made a sandwhich for my Dave, who is working on getting ready for his work day, and my kitties are happy and cuddly. Life is very decent right now. I usually manage to overflow my schedule with lots of wonderful things to keep me busy, but lately i have been more intraverted. I have a few very close friends and i do not miss having a massive crowd of people to impress. I have been sewing, organizing, baking, and watching lots of movies instead of constantly going out. I am thoroughly enjoying free evenings and mornings. Either i will become incessantly lazy, or i will crave more interaction and chaos.
Recently i have just been dying for it to be Christmas. I don't necessarily want snowy weather, cold wind, and december, but i really want Christmas trees, colors, lights, baking, music, clothing, and gatherings. (My kitten is so cuddly right now and has plopped herself halfway on my lap and halfway on the keyboard. So cute and so annoying!) If i had a christmas party in August would anyone come to it?
I am off to get ready for my day now.
All Done
